Secretary for the Environment KS Wong (second left) tours a solar panel facility in Tokyo.

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong began his Tokyo trip today by visiting firms that develop hydrogen-powered vehicles and solar farms.

He visited a car company and rode in a vehicle that uses hydrogen fuel cells. He also visited a hydrogen refuelling station.

The vehicles are powered by hydrogen and emit only water and heat, reducing air pollutants and carbon emissions.

Mr Wong then went to the mega floating solar plant at Yamakura Dam Reservoir in Chiba Prefecture where 51,000 solar panels are installed.

Its annual power generation is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 4,000 households.

He also visited a solar panel facility along the Narita Sky Access Line railway to learn about its operation.

Mr Wong will attend a reception hosted by the Tokyo government tonight.
