PMQ projects charitable spirit

June 21, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung

It's a great pleasure for me and my wife to be here with you today. I am not going to repeat anything I said in Cantonese because I don't have a piece of paper in front of me. I don't want to miss out anything in my English part of my address.

I just like to point out one thing. I think this is a happy coincidence. The mastermind and the energy behind this [PMQ] project is a charitable foundation by the name of Musketeers, which is a French creation.

The Musketeers Education & Culture Charitable Foundation has behind it three musketeers. They are - I am giving your secret away, I am afraid, you have to come out of hiding - Stanley Chu, Lawrence Fung and Leong Ka-chai. They won the competition, they forked out the money, and more importantly, they put out a great deal of opportunity cost.

What they contributed to this project is not just the cheque that they wrote, which was a big cheque. But they are business people, very successful business people. The time and energy that they spent on this project was extended much more than the amount that was written on the cheque and we must thank them.

This is a project that was driven by one charitable foundation that would be enjoyed by all. And that reminds me of, and I'll close on this, that reminds me of the motto in the French creation, and this is about creativity, in the French creation, The Three Musketeers.  And the motto is "One for all, and all for one".

Chief Executive CY Leung gave the speech at the opening ceremony of PMQ on June 21.
