Yuen Long crocodile gets new home

The four-year-old Yuen Long crocodile, caught in Kam Tin River on June 10, has moved to its new home at the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden where 'she' will receive expert care.

The female crocodile is 1.5-metre long and weighs 14 kilograms. At her new home, she can enjoy open-air enclosures, ponds, shelters and a natural setting.

All these facilities are suitable for the healthy growth of this celebrity reptile until its permanent home is ready at Wetland Park in 2005.

In the meantime, Education City has launched an online gallery showcasing winning entries of a drawing competition held earlier to promote the protection of endangered species.

The winner, a 14-year-old boy from Tseung Kwan O Leung Sing Tak Primary School, sketched a picture showing a little boy asleep on the reptile's back against a starry background.

Can you imagine the Yuen Long crocodile playing guitar? A 12-year-old girl from the Buddhist Wong Cho Sum School presented the idea with colourful pens. For a six-year-old kindergarten student, the crocodile plays with butterflies and bees.
