October 19, 2017
Captivating concerts

Captivating concerts:  The Soweto Gospel Choir’s performances feature resonant harmonies, dazzling costumes, catchy improvised movements and other compelling elements.

South Africa's award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir will stage three concerts in late October.

The choir comprises the best vocalists from churches in Soweto, the largest black township in South Africa.

Its diverse repertoire in English and African languages ranges from spiritual hymns and songs of freedom from South Africa's apartheid era to pop classics.

The choir has won two Grammys, an Emmy and other prestigious awards.

The acclaimed choral group has performed with famous singers including Bono, Diana Ross, John Legend and Celine Dion, and their shows have drawn numerous dignitaries including Barack Obama and the British royal family.

The concerts are part of the World Cultures Festival 2017 - Vibrant Africa organised by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department.

They will be staged at 8pm on October 27 and 28 at Kwai Tsing and Yuen Long theatres, and 3pm on October 29 at Sha Tin Town Hall.

Tickets are available at URBTIX.
