An exhibition on commentary and humour cartoons before and after the 1911 Revolution will be held at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum from June 17 to October 10.
It will introduce the situation in China in the late Qing dynasty and the revolutionary road to the establishment of Republican China through 70 images of cartoons published before and after the 1911 Revolution and other artefacts.
A large number of original cartoons sprang up in China during the early 20th century. Cartoons of this era were mostly satire of current affairs, expressing cartoonists' perspectives on the political circumstances in China and the global situation.
Cartoons offered an effective vehicle to highlight the crux of a matter through exaggerated drawings, and easily conveyed messages to ordinary people.
They also helped disseminate information, functioned as revolutionary propaganda and awakened people's awareness of the current situation.
The exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and the Memorial Museum of 1911 Revolution, and organised by the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum.
