Chief Secretary Carrie Lam today opened the Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place exhibition at the Heritage Museum.
Mrs Lam said the exhibition is one of the most exciting highlights of this year's Le French May Arts Festival, giving visitors a rare opportunity to view great works of art by world-class painters.
The exhibition features 17 artworks, including some of Monet's most emblematic masterpieces conserved in French public collections, presenting the spirit of place and the artist's legacy through the imperceptible differences captured over hours, days and seasons.
Exhibits include Water Lilies, Effect of Spring, Giverny and The Break-up of the Ice at Vétheuil, facing Lavacourt.
For the first time, paintings from French National collections and Hong Kong private collections will be shown together under four themes: Normandy and Brittany; Paris and the Île-de-France region; London and Venice; and Giverny's famous water lily garden.
Each section features an audio-visual and multimedia display so visitors can follow in Monet’s footprints and feel the natural beauty and spirit of place conveyed by his brushstrokes.
The exhibition will run from tomorrow to July 11.
