New sports centre, library opens

Active venue:  The sports centre features an arena that can be used as basketball, volleyball or badminton courts.

Knowledge centre:  The library welcomes schools, and cultural and educational organisations to arrange for group visits.

Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre & Public Library officially opened today, providing residents with quality sports, leisure and reading facilities.

 

Officiating at the opening ceremony, Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah noted that Tseung Kwan O has become an energetic new town with a population of more than 400,000, adding that the Leisure & Cultural Services Department had established the sports centre and public library to meet local demand.

 

The sports facilities include the first outdoor climbing wall to meet international competition standard in Sai Kung, a multi-purpose arena, indoor jogging track, children's play room and multi-purpose rooms. 

 

There is also a one hectare open space outside the sports centre, featuring a sitting-out area, lawn, fitness corner for seniors and children's playground which are open round the clock.

 

The new three-storey library includes a students' study room, newspapers & periodicals section, an adult and children's library, and computer and multimedia services.

 

In addition to its collection of 170,000 items and more than 140 local and overseas newspapers and periodical titles, the library also organises regular activities to promote reading.

 

The sports centre is open 7am to 11pm daily, except for every second and fourth Monday of each month from 7am to 1pm when it is closed for regular maintenance.

 

The library is open 9am to 8pm Mondays to Wednesdays and on Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 8pm on Thursdays, and 9am to 5pm on Sundays and public holidays.
