Gov’t funded film to premiere

August 30, 2015

The first 3D motion picture financed by the Film Development Fund Lost in Wrestling will premiere in Hong Kong this evening.

The film's production budget was around $15 million, with government financing amounting to about $3.7 million.

Directed by Casey Chan and starring William Chan, Siqin Gaowa, Zhao Ke, Li Feier and Naoko Watanabe, the film tells the story of a young Mongolian female wrestler who travels to Japan for a tournament. While in Japan, she finds and helps a long-lost childhood friend who has gone astray, to get back on the right path.

In 2014, the film won the Perron Award (3D Feature Live Action) at the Sixth Edition of 3D Stereo MEDIA in Belgium and the Honour Film Award at the 23rd China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

The Film Development Council said through financing the project, the Government wishes to encourage local film companies to make more new works. By deploying more advanced technologies in local films, they can break away from the traditional 2D film production and enrich the Hong Kong film scene.

In May, the Government further injected $200 million into the fund to boost the volume of local film production and nurture talent. Since 2007, 32 applications have been approved for financing under the fund, involving total funding of about $88 million.
