Chao Shao-an expo to open

Classic art:  Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui (centre) and guests open the exhibition.

The Heritage Museum will hold an exhibition to mark the 110th birthday of Prof Chao Shao-an, master of the Lingnan school of painting, from tomorrow.

 

It is jointly organised with the Guangzhou Museum of Art.

 

Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui officiated at the opening ceremony today.

 

Over 130 of Prof Chao's representative works are featured to offer a comprehensive display of the maestro's lifetime of artistic development and his contributions to the art world.

 

The exhibition will showcase his works from the 1930s to the '90s, covering the subjects of birds and flowers, landscapes, insects, animals, figures and calligraphy.

 

Highlights include Tiger, White Peacock, Moonlight over the Pond and the five-panel screen Plantain Trees from the collection of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and Peacock, Fishermen Gather in River Bank and Flower Bridge in Guilin from the Guangzhou Museum of Art.

 

In addition, 12 signature works of Prof Chao borrowed from the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco will be displayed in the Chao Shao-an Gallery.

 

Both exhibitions will be held until September 7.
