Young virtuoso to give sheng concert

Local sheng virtuoso Cheng Ho-kwan will give his first professional solo concert in June.

 

The programme will feature well-known classics from the sheng repertoire including:The Phoenix Spreads its Wings, Song of the Homebound Fishermen, Song of the Axi Tribe, Song of Spring on the Xiang River, Zen and Let's Snap from the repertoire of Nanyang-inspired music, and a brand new commissioned work, La neige de temps.

 

Mr Cheng graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, having majored in the traditional reed instrument under Cheng Tak-wai, with a minor in Chinese percussion under Yim Hok-man. He was also coached by noted sheng virtuosi Hu Tianquan, Weng Zhenfa and Loo Sze-wang. He has won numerous competition awards and scholarships.

 

The concert will be staged at 8pm on June 30 at City Hall Theatre.
