Local dance company Unlock Dancing Plaza will stage Boy Story . Reborn in May, its new production featuring young men of two generations coming together to revive a classic, and subvert the present moment.
First staged in 1996 by six male dancers, Boy Story explores the male's anxiety towards self-positioning, integrated with the local community's reservations about the handover of Hong Kong in the run-up to 1997.
Nineteen years later, the original cast from Malaysia and Taiwan with Unlock Dancing Plaza's artistic director Ong Yong Lock, and the dancers from the premiere, are reunited to revive the classic. The reunion has given rise to a new combination, Boy Story . Reborn.
The show will be be staged at 8pm on May 22 and 23 at Sheung Wan Civic Centre.
