HK welcomes Year of the Ram

February 22, 2015

To usher in the Year of the Ram, people follow Chinese customs such as visiting temples to pray for good fortune.

On the third day of the Chinese New Year, worshippers flocked to Che Kung Temple in Shatin to spin the Wheel of Fortune to dispel bad luck and bring good fortune.

The fabled Wishing Tree in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po is another new year hotspot. People write their wishes on a placard and tie it to a tangerine, and toss it onto the tree. If it hangs successfully without falling down, their wish should come true.

In this Year of Ram, one can find many forms of the creature on display in the city. An example is the four-metre high Golden Goat lantern featured at PMQ in Central, to wish visitors a calm and peaceful year.
