Japanese classics to be screened

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will present the "Repertory Cinema 2014 - New Japanese Cinema in 1980s" series from October 3 to November 30 which features over 20 Japanese films of the 1970s and 80s.

 

In collaboration with the Japan Foundation and supported by the Kawakita Memorial Film Institute, the event is curated by Law Wai-ming, and the screenings will be held at the Film Archive and the Science Museum.

 

It will feature acclaimed Japanese filmmakers Kuroki Kazuo, Yanagimachi Mitsuo, Morita Yoshimitsu, Hasegawa Kazuhiko, Kitano Takeshi and Hayashi Kaizo.

 

To complement the screenings, Law Wai-ming, and film critics Ka Ming and Lai Ho will host a seminar on October 25. 

 

A series of master study courses for audiences to know more about Japanese cinema in the 1980s and its associated social background will be arranged.
