Four veteran local artists will collaborate on a new multimedia dance theatre production in May entitled
The Life and Death of Xiao Hong.
Xiao Hong was a Chinese writer born in Hulan County, Heilongjiang. She ran away from home at the age of 19 to avoid an arranged marriage and struggled in life afterwards.
Her most famous work, ‘The Field of Life & Death’, was published in 1935 with the endorsement and support of fellow writer Lu Xun. She died in 1942 following an unnecessary throat surgery due to misdiagnosis when she was 30 years old.
The production explores her motivation and how she died a helpless death but lived on through her writing. The creative team includes Lo Wai-luk (direction and text), Mui Cheuk-yin (choreography and performance), Nancy Loo (piano) , Mark Chan (harmonica and visuals), and Kung Chi-shing (music composition and sound design).
The performance will be held at 8pm on May 24 and 25 and at 3pm on May 26 at the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity.
