Man jailed for illegal employment
*

Sha Tin Magistracy has jailed a 24-year-old man eight months for taking employment unlawfully while a removal order on him was in force.

He was found working in a restaurant at Chung King Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui during an anti-illegal employment crackdown on January 12.

The man entered Hong Kong as a visitor in June 2006 and Police arrested him in January 2007 for overstaying. He was then detained for repatriation for one month and subsequently released on Immigration recognisance on February 12, 2007.

In March 2007, he lodged a torture claim after being issued with a removal order on February 16, 2007.

He was charged with one count of taking employment unlawfully while being a person on whom a removal order is in force. He was convicted and jailed for eight months on March 9.
