Labour officer sentenced for misconduct
*
ICAC

Kowloon City Magistracy has ordered a Labour Department officer to perform 240 hours of community service for visiting a mahjong school while on duty.

Occupational Safety Officer Law Hoi-fat, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in public office.

He was tasked to conduct a survey on the Factories & Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. He made false entries on the official diary and false records in office files that purported to show he visited 15 shops from June 18 to 23 last year.

Independent Commission Against Corruption officers found he did not visit the shops. The operators also confirmed no Labour Department officer visited during the specified period.

Instead, the defendant was found to have stayed at a mahjong school while he was supposed to be on duty during the period.
