Police issued 508 fixed-penalty tickets and 34 summonses to road users for violating traffic regulations during a crackdown on Hong Kong Island.
The two-day blitz ended at 7pm today, with 206 officers enforcing traffic laws at accident blackspots on the Island. They issued 331 fixed-penalty tickets for illegal parking and 177 for other traffic offences.
They also cautioned 41 pedestrians and 295 drivers for minor offences, and gave road-safety leaflets to road users.
Up to June, 1,407 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island. Of them, 52.5% were due to pedestrians' negligence.
