Four large seminars for teachers will be held this summer to improve their anti-drug efforts on campus, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says, adding the Government will work with Hong Kong Education City to provide them with online anti-drug resources.

Speaking after his meeting with the Action Committee Against Narcotics and District Council chairmen today, he said new measures will be introduced soon to tackle youth drug abuse.

Seminars for parents will be held at the district level and anti-drug community activities will be organised through the parent-teacher association network. The first seminar is scheduled for August 8.

Mr Tsang said social workers will man the anti-drug hotline from August and a district-based anti-drug community programme will be launched offering youngsters healthy and interesting activities in which to participate.

"I am very happy to learn many districts have already formulated their plans which involve sports and recreational activities of various kinds which appeal to young people," he said.

The Government will continue liaising with schools and parents in Tai Po on the details of the drug-test trial scheme to be implemented there in the coming school year, he added.

Urging the public to support the Path Builders scheme launched last year, he said it provides a platform for every sector to show their care for youth.

"We are also studying ways to facilitate individuals and companies to make donations in support of this major anti-drug drive."
