3 jailed for bank fraud
*
Hong Kong Police

The District Court has jailed three men aged 47 to 61 for up to three and a half years for attempting to deceive a bank with a fake letter of credit.

The defendants entered a Central bank August 21 and produced a copy of a 5 million Euro standby letter of credit purportedly issued by a UK bank.

They then asked the local bank to send a message to another local bank confirming the availability of funds in their account.

The bank staff reported the case to Police and the three men were arrested. Other correspondence and supporting documents confirming the issuance of the supposed letter of credit were found and all the documents seized were confirmed false.
