A special Beat Drugs Fund exercise to design a training programme for general practitioners is open for applications until November 17.
Successful applicants must design and run a professional training programme for family doctors, produce a manual for them, and maintain a bilingual web-based version of the training materials and the manual for online access and self-learning.
The training programme will enhance family doctors' awareness and knowledge of the drug problem and the skills to screen, advise or refer drug abusers to proper treatment services, thus widening the community network for early intervention.
The manual will serve as a handy and useful reference for doctors to provide screening and brief intervention services. The long-term goal is to get these services into the routine practice and healthcare setting of general practitioners.
