Customs officers have neutralised a syndicate suspected of smuggling high-value electronics into the Mainland, arresting five people and seizing $4.6-million worth of goods.
The syndicate is believed to have concealed the goods in altered fuel tanks in cross-boundary seven-seater vehicles.
Officers launched the operation today at Sha Tau Kok Control Point and in a fenced area on Wo Keng Shan Road in Ta Kwu Ling. They seized 824 mobile phones, 150 digital cameras, 2,680 computer processors, digital memory cards and random-access-memory chips.
Two drivers, two passengers and a packaging worker aged 33 to 48 were arrested and three cars impounded.
