Police arrested 46 drivers for drink-driving related offences and conducted 1,011 roadside checks during the Lunar New Year period.
In a Hong Kong-wide road safety campaign which started February 1 and ended yesterday, officers distributed 21,600 leaflets reminding motorists not to drink and drive. They also visited various bar and restaurant areas and invited 402 people to take voluntary breath tests.
Offenders are liable to three years' jail, a $25,000 fine and the loss of 10 driving points, or possible disqualification from driving.
