Restaurateur given community service

*
Labour Department

A restaurant director has been ordered by Kwun Tong Magistracy to serve 160 hours of community service for wage offences.

Ng Chau-lan, director of Firstwide Holdings trading as Fook Chun Seafood Restaurant, was also ordered today to clear the outstanding wages through the court.

The restaurant closed suddenly last May. Nine employees involved in the case were owed more than $55,000 in wages and lodged winning claims with the Labour Tribunal, however, the employer failed to comply.

The Labour Department investigated the case and found the offences were committed with Ng's consent, connivance or neglect.

Employees who are owed wages should call the department's complaint hotline 2815 2200.
