Fowl move: Marine Police have seized a shipment of live chickens without valid health certificates near Yuen Long Creek.
*

Marine Police have seized a shipment of live chickens without valid health certificates near Yuen Long Creek. They were found by officers on a wooden vessel near Yuen Long Creek.

About 1,400 chickens and 130 silky fowl of unknown source in 110 cages were transported to the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department's operation centre in Ta Kwu Ling. The department humanely put them down after taking samples for testing.

The department reminded the public not to bring live poultry into Hong Kong without valid health certificates or face a $25,000-fine.

In the first 11 months of 2007 the department seized 500 chickens illegally imported into Hong Kong. Call 1823 to report illegal keeping or smuggling of poultry.
