Chief Executive Donald Tsang has expressed his sadness at the death of Fireman Wong Ka-hei who died while fighting a No.3 alarm fire in Tsuen Wan today.

Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee, Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue and Director of Fire Services Kwok Jing-keung also offered their condolences to the 27-year-old's family. The Government will assist them at this difficult time.

In an article posted on his webblog, Mr Tsang said he was saddened by the tragedy and wished for the speedy recovery of the other six injured firemen. He also paid tribute to all medical and disciplined staff.

The fire broke out on the sixth floor of an industrial building at 126-140 Texaco Road at 11.53pm yesterday and was upgraded to a No.3 alarm blaze at 12.19am. It was put out at 4.16am.

Seven firemen and four others were sent to hospital. The fallen fireman was certified dead at 1.33am at Yan Chai Hospital. Of the injured firemen, one was admitted to Yan Chai Hospital in critical condition, one was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital in stable condition and the other four have been discharged. A 50-year-old woman was in stable condition in Yan Chai Hospital while another three building residents have been discharged.
