The public has always held the Hong Kong Police traditions and professional standards in high regard, as reflected in public opinion surveys conducted by the University of Hong Kong. They show the overall confidence of the public in the force has been maintained at around 75% in recent years.
Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing made these remarks at a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College today.
He encouraged the graduates to maintain and enhance the force's performance and reputation.
He also reminded them to remain true to their oath of office at all times, serve the people of Hong Kong wholeheartedly by upholding law and order and display loyalty to their colleagues.
Mr Tang said policing the increasingly complex and sophisticated society of Hong Kong presented many challenges and created tremendous pressure for police officers.
It also brings officers great satisfaction and a sense of achievement.
Mr Tang said in the course of police work officers would inevitably feel both physical and psychological stress. To cope with these stresses, he encouraged them to continue to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle to keep their body and mind in good condition.
A total of 205 recruit constables graduated today.
