Customs have arrested three men believed to have auctioned pirated DVDs via an e-commerce system. They allegedly sent the discs to overseas buyers by express mail. Aged 20 to 43, they were arrested after officers raided three residential premises in Tai Kok Tsui, Mong Kok and Lam Tin, and a Kwun Tong commercial unit today.
They will be charged for infringing the Copyright Ordinance, and the case will be heard at Kwun Tong Magistracy on March 3.
The Customs & Excise Department is consulting the Department of Justice in applying the Organised & Serious Crimes Ordinance to freeze the syndicate's $40 million in assets, which include three residential units, two car park spaces, a car, watches, jewellery and cash.
They allegedly bought copyrighted discs from overseas and replicated them in the Mainland unlawfully. The discs were smuggled into Hong Kong for packaging and storage and auctioning.
