    Digital TV coverage to expand

Digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage will extend to 85% of the population from 75% by the end of the year, the Commerce & Economic Development Bureau says.

When the two free-to-air broadcasters complete the five extra fill-in transmitting stations, 700,000 more people will be able to enjoy digital TV broadcasting.

The new stations will be situated at Sheung Yeung Shan, Sai Wan Shan, Piper's Hill, Brick Hill and Beacon Hill. They enhance TV signals in Tseung Kwan O, Sheung Sze Wan, Siu Sai Wan, Cheung Sha Wan, Shouson Hill, Repulse Bay and Tai Wai.

The bureau said the digital TV take-up rate rose 80% over last year, and 42% - about 960,000 households - were receiving digital TV in September.

The Office of the Telecommunications Authority has authorised 214 receiver models for receiving digital TV channels, including 102 set-top boxes and 112 iDTV sets.
