The Department of Health has reminded seniors and their caregivers to take precautions against the cold weather in the coming days.

Assistant Director of Health Dr Regina Ching said cold weather can trigger diseases, especially among the elderly and people suffering from heart, respiratory or chronic medical conditions.

Chronic illnesses like hypertension, diabetes and endocrine problems may lead to a lower metabolic rate and cause the body to generate less heat, she added. Click here to see the precautions.

The Observatory issued the cold weather warning at 4am on Wednesday. The minimum temperatures in the urban areas will be around 11 degrees, and a couple of degrees lower in the northern part of the New Territories and on high ground.

A few rain patches were expected with moderate northeasterly winds, fresh at times. Temperatures will rise gradually in the next few days.
