The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has launched a three week citywide year-end clean-up campaign ahead of the Year of the Tiger.
District environmental hygiene offices have since January boosted cleaning at public markets, cooked-food centres and hawker bazaars in their districts, and launched intensive pest-control measures.
Cleaning and pest control have been implemented according to each districts' needs. For example, preventive measures are being conducted at old tenement buildings and other areas susceptible to mosquitoes. Cleaning frequencies have increased at hygiene blackspots, such as alleys.
The clean-up will end February 11. District Councils have been informed of the major operation details to solicit their support.
The department called for co-operation and concerted efforts from people both working and living in each district to help keep the environment clean. It will boost enforcement action against littering, spitting, illegal posting of bills or posters, improper feeding of pigeons and other feral birds, and dog fouling.
