Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang says he is pleased with ticket sales for the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games, as nearly all events have sold out. Only tickets for soccer and rugby matches remain.

Speaking to the media after inspecting Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground today, Mr Tang said the two events will be held at the Hong Kong Stadium which has seating for 40,000. The events represent about 100,000 of the total 330,000 games tickets made available.

"We are all doing our utmost to ensure the facilities, arrangements and everything is in order. I am very pleased to say all those who have participated are excited. They are happy with what we have done so far," he said.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau today led an inter-departmental working group to Guangzhou to inspect the preparation work of the vessels which will join the parade in the games opening ceremony.

The group inspected the parade boats and learned about the progress of the preparations, particularly the safety arrangements.

Mrs Yau said she is pleased good progress has been made and preparations are proceeding smoothly.

The opening on December 5 will feature a boat parade on Victoria Harbour with special light effects and a fireworks display.
