Over 100,000 people visited the two Olympic Live Sites in Victoria and Sha Tin Parks since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opened on August 8, Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Thomas Chow says.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the live sites at Sha Tin Park tonight, Mr Chow said the live broadcasts of the competition events on giant video screens installed at the live sites have allowed Hong Kong people to have a closer participation in the games.
Apart from watching the competitions, people also enjoyed stage performances and took part in sports and games stalls.
Mr Chow said although Hong Kong athletes did not win any medals this time, they strived hard for the best, breaking many Hong Kong records. Their exertion of Olympic spirit is worthy of everyone's respect.
Noting the Olympic Games enthusiasm had not yet waned, he said the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games will begin on September 6 and an Olympic live site will be set up in Sha Tin Park.
