The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a two-year-old girl admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital on March 13 has laboratory evidence of influenza infection. Her condition is stable.
The centre said four more reports through the influenza surveillance set up by the centre and hospitals were received today, bringing the total to 12 since the arrangement was implemented on March 13. Four including the two-year-old girl case and the three cases announced earlier have laboratory evidence of influenza infection.
Among the three cases, a three-year-old boy admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on March 11 is in stable condition. The other two girls aged seven and eight have been discharged.
The influenza surveillance arrangement aims to monitor the trend of influenza-related complications in children, including severe pneumonia, myocarditis, shock, sepsis-like or encephalopathy.
To prevent influenza, the public should maintain good personal as well as environmental hygiene and build up good body immunity by having a proper diet, regular exercise, and adequate rests, reducing stress and avoiding smoking. Click here for more health tips.
