    Avian flu

    Dead bird H5N1-positive

A dead black-crowned night heron found at Ocean Park has been confirmed to be H5N1-positive, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says.

The carcass was collected January 28. The heron species is a common resident and winter visitor to Hong Kong.

To prevent avian flu people must observe good personal hygiene, avoiding personal contact with wild birds and live poultry and cleaning their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them. More health tips are available here.
