Illicit dye found in restaurant dumpling
*
Centre for Food Safety

A trace amount of Sudan IV has been found in a rice dumpling sample recently collected from a restaurant, the Centre for Food Safety says.

The centre collected rice dumpling samples for microbiological and chemical testing. One contained a trace amount of Sudan IV. The level detected was 0.046ppm. Normal consumption should not have any adverse health effects. However, the restaurant has been asked to stop selling the dumplings.

Chemical tests were also conducted to detect preservatives, heavy metals and pesticides. The microbiological tests cover pathogenic bacteria.
