11 ill after eating poon choi
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected food poisoning report involving 11 people, who fell ill after eating poon choi. Bacterial or viral contamination is the likely cause.

Five women and six men, aged 12 to 50, came down with vomiting, diarrhoea and fever after eating a poon choi lunch at home in Tuen Mun on February 25. Initial investigations revealed the poon choi was ordered from a food premises and delivered to their home on the same day.

They sought medical treatment from private doctors. Their symptoms were generally mild and none required hospitalisation.

People, especially food handlers, should observe good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases. Click here to read more safety tips for enjoying poon choi.
