The Centre for Health Protection has been informed by the Ministry of Health of a confirmed human case of avian influenza H5N1 in Anhui province.

A 37-year-old farmer came down with fever and pneumonia on December 10. After treatment, he recovered and was discharged on January 6.

The Chinese Centre for Diseases Control & Prevention conducted tests on a specimen from the patient. They came back positive on January 8.
