Chilli products under investigation
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department is investigating two Mainland products, a Guilin chilli sauce and a Shenzhen chilli oil, which have been found to contain additive Sudan I.

Mainland authorities said today that 20 boxes of the sauce and 120 boxes of the oil were exported to Hong Kong last January and August respectively. However, it is uncertain whether the products belong to the same batch tested to contain Sudan I.

The department said there is no immediate health risk, and no cause for undue alarm. It is following up the matter with importers and Mainland authorities, and will conduct inspections to check the products' availability.
