InnoCarnival on space engineering opens
*

A host of space engineering articles and creations have gone on show at the InnoCarnival, turning Hong Kong Science Park into a world of robots.

The four-day show opened today featuring exhibitions, workshops, seminars and competitions. It is the highlight of Innovation Festival 09.

Opening the show today Financial Secretary John Tsang said overseas technology enterprises have been attracted to Hong Kong to open research centres.

"DuPont from the US set up its DuPont Apollo Global Thin Film Photovoltaic Business Headquarters and Research & Development Centre in the Science Park in March. Xinyi Glass, a glass panel manufacturer, will also establish its laboratory there for research in solar energy glass panel walls."

He said the Government is actively promoting innovation and technology, which has been identified as one of the six industries in which Hong Kong has a competitive advantage. Mr Tsang said the city has first-rate teaching staff and support facilities, and the Innovation & Technology Fund provides funding to universities to conduct research and development.

"The commission has organised the Innovation Festival for the fifth consecutive year, with a view to encouraging the community to grasp the chance to enhance the quality of life through technologies," he said.
