| Trade hub: Hong Kong's total goods exports volume rose 5.8% in March. |

Hong Kong's total goods exports volume rose 5.8% in March on the same month last year, while the goods imports volume grew 3%, the Census & Statistics Department says.
Taken separately, the re-exports volume grew 6.4% while the domestic exports volume fell 9.5%.
The month saw the price of goods re-exports rise 2.6%, and those of domestic exports grow 3.8%. Total goods export prices rose 2.6% while the import prices rose 3.8%.
Export volume to Germany saw 20.8% year-on-year growth. Volume to the UK rose 10.4%, to the US, 4.3%, and to the Mainland, 2.2%. The export volume to Japan dropped 13.5%.
Total export prices to all destinations increased in the month, such as the US (+6.1%), Germany (+5.4%), the UK (+5.3%), Japan (+3.2%), and the Mainland (+0.5%).
Comparing March with the same month last year, the import volume from the Mainland grew 3.9%, while that from the US and Japan rose 1.6% and 1.2%.
Over the same comparison periods, the import volume from Taiwan and Singapore fell 3.4% and 4.8%. Import prices from Singapore rose 11.3%. Meanwhile, import prices from the US, Taiwan, the Mainland and Japan grew 3.7%, 3.5%, 2.8% and 2%.
Compared with last year's first quarter, the goods re-exports volume rose 9.6%, while the figure for domestic exports fell 5%. Taken together, the total goods exports volume grew 9.1%. The imports volume rose 9.6%.
Comparing this year's first quarter with the preceding quarter on a seasonally-adjusted basis, the total exports volume grew 1.8%. Within this total, the re-exports volume rose 2.1%, while the figure for domestic exports fell 5.2%. The imports volume dropped 1.4%.
