Exports rise 6%

March saw Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rise 8% on the same month last year, while domestic exports shrank 27.9%, the Census & Statistics Department says. Taken together, the volume of total exports grew 6%. Concurrently, the volume of imports rose 12%.

 

For the first quarter of 2007 as a whole, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports rose 10.6% over the same period in 2006, whereas that of domestic exports dropped 33.5%. Taken together, the volume of total exports rose 7.8%. Concurrently, the volume of imports grew 8.4%.

 

Compared with the same month last year, the price of re-exports rose 2.8%, while those of domestic exports grew 0.4%. Taken together, the prices of total exports rose 2.7%. Concurrently, the prices of imports grew 2.5%.

 

On price changes in the first quarter, over the same period in 2006, prices of re-exports rose 2.8%, and those of domestic exports by 0.4%. Taken together, the prices of total exports grew 2.7%. Concurrently, the prices of imports rose 2.6%.
