Tourism Board follows up on rip-off report
*
HK Tourism Board

The Tourism Board has asked the Shenzhen Tourism Bureau to investigate a report that claims some Mainland visitors have been cheated while shopping in Hong Kong.

The board's chairman James Tien said the report by China Central Television will impact Mainland visitors' propensity to travel to Hong Kong.

"We therefore immediately contacted the Shenzhen Tourism Bureau and requested it to assist in the investigation and follow up with the related travel agency promptly," he said.

"We have also reported the incident to the China National Tourism Administration, which expressed its concern about the matter."

The board has contacted the CCTV programme's producers, and asked them to produce programmes highlighting tips for shopping in Hong Kong.

To tie in with the Labour Day Golden Week, the board will launch a series of promotions, and enhance publicity for the Honest & Quality Hong Kong Tour and the Quality Tourism Services scheme in the Mainland, to build a positive image of Hong Kong.
