Average household income in the fourth quarter last year rose 5.6% to $16,900 from a year earlier with 2.23 million families recorded, marking a 1.5% year-on-year increase, the Census & Statistics Department says.

 

According to the Quarterly Report on General Household Survey for October-December 2006 released today, the fourth quarter saw a 13.9% fall in unemployed people to 153,700 as compared with the same period last year, while people with jobs rose 2.8% to 3.47 million, the Census & Statistics Department says.

 

The report also contains Q4 figures on the labour force, employment, unemployment and underemployment, and detailed analyses of the characteristics of different categories of the labour force.
