The volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports in December rose 17.6% over a year earlier, while domestic exports fell 39%.
Taken together, the volume of total goods exports rose 13.4%. At the same time, the volume of goods imports rose 12.2%.
The Census & Statistics Department said, comparing 2006 with 2005, the volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports rose 10.8%, and that of domestic exports 1.1%. Taken together, the volume of total goods exports grew 10.2%. At the same time, the volume of goods imports rose 10.2%.
Comparing the fourth quarter of 2006 with the preceding quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total goods exports rose 3.3%. Within this total, the volume of re-exports rose 4.6%, while that of domestic exports fell 19.9%. At the same time, the volume of goods imports rose 4%.
Export, import prices rise
Comparing December 2006 with December 2005, the prices of goods re-exports rose 2.5%, while those of domestic exports fell 0.8%. Taken together, the prices of total goods exports grew 2.3%. At the same time, the prices of goods imports rose 3%.
Comparing 2006 over 2005, the prices of goods re-exports rose 1.1%, while those of domestic exports fell 2.1%. Taken together, the prices of total goods exports rose 1%. At the same time, the prices of goods imports rose 2.1%.
