Bankruptcy petitions up 7.6%

There were 10,685 bankruptcy petitions presented in 2006, up 7.6% on the previous year's figure of 9,933, the Official Receiver's Office says.

 

During the year, the court made 10,324 bankruptcy orders, up 5.2% on 2005.

 

A total of 762 bankruptcy petitions were presented in December, down 22.9% on November, a drop of 8% compared with the average monthly figure of 828 in 2005.

 

During the month, the court made 653 bankruptcy orders, down 25.9% on the previous month's figure of 882, a drop of 20.2% on the average monthly figure of 818 in 2005.
