HK students win 5 maths medals
*

Five senior secondary students have won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Germany, scoring the best results for the Hong Kong team since 2006.

The competitors, trainees of Support Measures for the Exceptionally Gifted Students Scheme, were selected to represent Hong Kong for their outstanding performance in the IMO Preliminary Selection Contest - Hong Kong last year.

The Education Bureau said the good results reflected the successful co-operation between the bureau, the IMO (Hong Kong) Committee and the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education in nurturing gifted students.

Gold medallist Ching Tak-wing, a Secondary Five student of Queen's College won a silver medal in the China Mathematical Olympiad 2009 in January. The two silver medallists are Kenneth Hung of Diocesan Boys' School and Lam Cho-ho of STFA Lee Shau Kee College. The bronze medallists are La Salle College's Chung Ping-ngai and STFA Leung Kau Kui College's Ng Ngai-fung.

The Olympiad was held July 10 to 22 in Bremen.
