Cultural exchange:  Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung and Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade Peter Szijjarto sign the working holiday plan.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung has signed a bilateral working holiday deal for young people with Hungary.

It will launch on July 1.

Signing the deal with Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade Peter Szijjarto today, Mr Cheung said: "This scheme provides an opportunity for young people in Hong Kong and Hungary to broaden their horizons and to gain living and working experience in a foreign culture. It will also further reinforce bilateral ties between Hong Kong and Hungary.

"The scheme with Hungary is the 11th bilateral working holiday scheme Hong Kong has set up and also our first partner along the Belt & Road."

There are 200 places available per year from each side under the scheme.

Participants can stay up to 12 months and are free to work to finance their stay or study self-financed courses.

Hong Kong has established working holiday schemes with New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Germany, Japan, Canada, Korea, France, the UK and Austria, benefitting more than 75,000 Hong Kong young people.

Visa application procedures for Hong Kong applicants can be found on the Hungarian Consulate's website.
