Good competence:  Acting Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung officiates at the Qualifications Framework Partnerships commendation ceremony.

Acting Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung presented commendations to 160 organisations today for their support and contributions to the Qualifications Framework.

They were commended for promoting recognition of prior learning, developing courses based on specification of competency standards, and for adopting the framework in human resources development.

Mr Yeung said, since the framework's 2008 launch, the Government has helped 22 industries set up training advisory committees, covering 53% of Hong Kong's total labour force.

Eighteen industries have developed their specification of competency standards while four others are expected to complete their specifications in one to two years.

More than 7,000 qualifications and their respective courses have been recognised under the framework and listed in the qualifications register.

Fourteen industries have put into force the Recognition of Prior Learning mechanism, through which 20,000 practitioners have obtained 37,000 statements of attainment, he added.

The seven-level Quality Framework, covering qualifications in the academic, vocational, continuing education and training sectors, provides a platform for promoting lifelong learning and enhancing the competitiveness of the local workforce.
