September 30, 2016

The Arboriculture & Horticulture Industry Training Advisory Committee under the Qualifications Framework will be established tomorrow, the Education Bureau announced today.

Victor Man has been appointed as the chairperson of the committee. Twenty-two members have been appointed, comprising employers and representatives of trade associations, professional bodies and labour unions, and representatives of the Education Bureau and the Development Bureau.

Serving for a term of two years, the committee will draw up the Specification of Competency Standards and develop the Recognition of Prior Learning mechanism for the arboriculture and horticulture industry.

Secretary for Education Eddie Ng said as Hong Kong is a densely populated city, the arboriculture and horticulture industry helps improve the quality of living environment.

Mr Ng hopes the committee will enhance the professional standards through manpower development and training, contributing to the sustainable development of the industry.

Including arboriculture and horticulture, the department has assisted 22 industries and sectors in setting up 21 Industry Training Advisory Committees under the Qualifications Framework, covering 53% of the local workforce.
