The Transport Department has reminded students to leave for school early on September 1 when the new education year starts, to avoid traffic.
It issued the reminder today saying parents and students should monitor the latest transport and traffic news on radio and television before leaving home.
It advised motorists not to drive in school areas if possible.
Nanny vans and school buses should not carry excess passengers or leave schoolchildren in vehicles unattended.
Parents should agree in advance with nanny van or school bus operators on the pick-up and drop-off locations for their children.
Call the department’s hotline 2804 2600 or the 1823 Call Centre for enquiries.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Health Protection urges school management to stay alert to common childhood communicable diseases in the new school year.
